What is the best time for the Machu Picchu 2 day Tours from Cusco?

It will depend on your preferred weather. The dry season runs from April to October and the rainy season runs from November to March.

Dry season. In the city of Cusco (mandatory stop for almost all visitors), the weather is rather cool throughout the period and quite cold between June and the end of August. However, Machu Picchu belongs to a subtropical climate, the days are warm to hot, sometimes some cold at night. In the city of Cusco it does not rain during this time, while in Machu Picchu there may be very fast and light showers some days.

Rainy season. On the other hand, in the city of Cusco it rains a lot in these months, but in short periods and 2 or 3 times a week, the same can be observed in Machu Picchu. It is then advisable to wear a waterproof jacket or rain poncho. Also, dress in layers, light clothes below and a little thicker above, so you will be ready for any type of weather.

What kinod of clotnes and Items must be taken for Machu PIccnu 2 day Tours from Cusco?

Machu Picchu is located on the border of the Amazon rainforest. In other words, it has a subtropical climate (warm and humid), so the type of clothing that we recommend you wear is:

If you travel during the rainy season (November – April). The best option is to wear a raincoat in addition to water and wind resistant clothing. But dress in layers, in a way that you can adapt your clothes to a changing climate, either fresh or warm.

Even if it is hot in the morning, always wear a warm clothing. It may be annoying to have to load it during the visit, but it is better to be prepared for the wind in the late afternoon.

Poles and / or shirts with long sleeves (preferably). To avoid insect bites and / or annoying sunburn.

Cap and sunglasses. A light and comfortable cap, so it will stay fresh. The lenses will allow you to appreciate all the beauty of Machu Picchu without having to strain your eyes.

Sunscreen and insect repellent. They are absolutely necessary. Especially the repellent since the itching of mosquito bites can be very annoying. If you think that insects have a particular taste for you, we also recommend not wearing short clothes of any kind. Use only personal hygiene and health products that are eco-friendly, that do not contaminate water. As a guide you can read our recent article on many biodegradable products that you should use.

Don’t forget to bring a lot of water! Staying hydrated with purified or bottled water is the best one can do to be healthy and full of energy during the excursion. It will also help prevent altitude sickness. Just keep in mind that Peru is already under a rule banning disposable plastic in tourism, so you must bring a canteen or reusable bottle.

How much luggage can I take on the train and what to do with my bags?

The train services, whether Peru Rail or Inca Rail, only allow carrying a carry-on luggage, weighing a maximum of 5 kilos. Both companies offer free storage for this luggage.

If you go to a Cusco to Machu Picchu 2 Day Tour then you must carry no more than 5 kilos in your luggage and on the day of the tour you can leave your luggage in the hotel storage in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) include bath linen to visit the thermal baths.
